SENIOR
TALKS:
Class of 2012 seniors Bond St. John, Ethan Grove, Austin
Lemna, Seth Myers, Matt Hinds, Jeremy Nickens, and Skyler Abernathy shared advice with their underclass
teammates on Tuesday, Sept. 27 during the annual Senior Talks. Among the topics covered: > Listen to the coaches and you will learn a lot about tennis and about life > Don't be too critical of yourself; that can make you not enjoy tennis > Remember that the key to mental toughness is solving problems! > Don't play at your opponent's pace. Play at your pace. You control your match. > Keep up your grades. It reflects positively on the whole team. > Enjoy the camaraderie of the team ... don't let the competitiveness take the fun out of it. > Organize your life so that you can stay balanced between tennis, grades, and social life > All of the coaches are invaluable resources. They can help you in lots of ways. > Try harder. DESIRE -- It doesn't take talent to try hard. > Do what's best for the team ... example, follow curfews > Hang out with your teammates on and off the court > Take advantage of off-season opportunities to improve. Play USTA tournaments. > Don't give up if you're low on the lineup right now. It can change. > Make sure you have fun or you won't improve > Stay away from drugs and alcohol -- nothing good will come from it. Think of your teammates if you find yourself in those situations. > Enjoy your four years because it goes by too quickly > What's best for you isn't always what's best for the team > Hit with others of lesser ability. Try to make your team better > Help others -- continue our traditions > Set an example by staying after practice to work on your game > Play hard every day and work to better yourself every day |
